I have 3 email accounts and one of them shows 'from Geoff 2 Smith on MC1' when I receive a msg from him, in both the In Box and in the message. If I reply to him it is sent to the correct address (eg Geoff@Smith.net.xx)

I suspect that I have been responsible for entering something like 'Geoff 2 Smith on MC1' in some field in settings ... but where ? It all works as far as sending a msg to the correct person, but is terribly untidy and frustrating.

To be sure it's from your side select or go on an email from that person and look in the source code of that email. ctrl+U or View menu - Source code. There look up for what is after "From" and see if that name is actually not sent by the contact itself....

Thank you for trying. However inspecting the source code shows 'Return-path', 'Envelope-from' and 'From' all as expected ie Geoff@D..... Next suggestion please ?

Can you open his contact details on address book then? If you have it saved on multiple address book check them all to see if you find there that text

BRILLIANT - you have got it !! But you also helped me uncover another can of worms. In digging around, I found not one 'Local Directory' but Six !! I changed the local directory one Account from "xxxx net-5.au" to xxx net-1.au" and found a pile of missing emails. Now I have a task to find "the correct" Local directory for all Accounts

Can you explain the relationship of the local directory to the Accounts ? Would I expect all Accounts to use the same Local Directory ? If so maybe my 6 accounts are a result of multiple attempts to recover/build a backup machine ?
