I’m working with an older client who is having issues with her Thunderbird account. Every time she deletes an email it completely disappears, I have looked for them in the trash and spam on Thunderbird and on Gmail browser to no avail. When I look under “All mail” on Gmail it shows up, but that’s it. Is there an issue with some of her configuration settings perhaps? What could be causing this?

What is the setting for 'When I delete a message' in Tools/Account Settings, Server Settings? Google recommends that it be 'Just mark it as deleted' (Labels section). Even so, with that setting, deleted messages don't appear in Trash or Deleted Items, just All Mail. This seems to be a common complaint, but I've noticed that deletions go to Trash when it's done on my phone (Outlook app).

The setting is current “move it to this folder” and it’s set to the trash folder. I tried to refresh it and adjust settings but even after going back to it, the emails aren’t showing up there.

I think it's a limitation, if not bug, of Google's version of IMAP, where messages are not actually 'moved' to different locations, just given extra labels. You would think they would allow 'just mark as deleted' and apply the Trash or Deleted Items label so the message would disappear from the original location but appear in Trash or Deleted Items.
