There have been plans to make it possible to set Firefox as the default email handler and open a web based email client if you use mailto: protocol and this is fixed in Firefox 76.

There have been plans to make it possible to set Firefox as the default email handler and open a web based email client if you use mailto: protocol and this is fixed in Firefox 76.
