Can't import .dbx files from old Outlook Express

more options

Hello

Please can someone explain a simple way that I can transfer thousands of emails in Outlook Express on an old PC running Windows XP into the latest version of Thunderbird on a new Windows 10 PC. I have tried everything and am pulling my hair out!! What doesn't help is that TB only imports from Outlook (not Express) or something called Becky! which I have never heard of. If this is going to involve a lot of messing around, can someone suggest an alternative free email program that will work with the .dbx files that Outlook Express uses?

Thank you.

One user managed to import dbx files to TB on a W10 computer with an older version of TB (TB 52.6):

Another alternative is export the OE mail as eml files and import those to TB.

If you install 52.6 on the XP computer, the OE mail should also import through the import wizard, Tools/Import... Once in TB, the mail folders can be copied from the XP computer to the TB profile on the W10 computer.

Thank you for your reply. I installed 52.6 as you suggested and it worked! I was able to import the .dbx files from a usb stick which was helpful so didn't need to install TB on the old XP computer first.

Hi - got PC with Windows 7 loaded on it & I-pad 6th Generation Version 13.4 & got a query - got multiple dbx files from an old Microsoft Outlook Express system - unfortunately I would like to use I-pad to get access to them - I can put them in a cloud or do it via the PC - least preferred option. Can anyone assist? Thanks, st.nicholasjohn

You can use an iPad to transfer files back and forth to the cloud, but it will be of no use in converting dbx files to a format recognized by TB. There are no versions of TB for mobile operating systems.
