Hello,

some subfolders in "Local Folders" disappeared from Thunderbird's Folder Pane after I renamed a folder two levels above. Using a file manager i can still see the folders and the data where the profile is stored. How can I get back access to the mails?

I tried - "Properties > Repair Folder" - renaming the parent folder back to what it was before - the approach Chris Ilias suggested here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1229185#answer-1142172.

None of these worked. I am using Thunderbird 60.7.2-64 on Ubuntu 19.04. Any help is highly appreciated.

As happens often, it is only when you ask the question to others that you find the solution yourself.

In case somebody else has this problem this is what I did (a variation of Chris' approach):

0. Close Thunderbird 1. Make a backup of the folders on file system level (where the profile is stored) 2. Delete those folders I just backed up 3. Start Thunderbird 4. Create new folders with identical names as the ones just deleted inside the Thunderbird application's folder pane. This creates new files on file system level. 5. Exit Thunderbird. 6. Substitute only those files without .msf extension with the backup files of step 1. 7. Start Thunderbird. The .msf files will be rebuilt from the files without extensions.

I'm having a similar problem with a folder under `Local Folders´ and three sub-folders beneath it. Neither the main folder of sub-folders are visible, but I can search and find all emails, however the `To´ fields are incorrect. I tried deleting the four .msf files but it didn't work. Can't do a REPAIR because there's no folder to right-click on. The procedure above is a bit unclear to me and I can't afford to screw things up royally. Please advice?
