FF 66.0.3 My downloads crash during the last few seconds and all extensions in windows are disabled
Windows 8.1 and FF 66.0.3 First: For some months I have had a problem with downloads bigger then approximately 0.25 GB crashing/failing in the last few seconds of a download. I have unsuccessfully tried many google searches/solutions. I have now resorted to using a different browser for all my downloads (currently I am trying Vivaldi). This problem occurs on all of our windows and Mate 18.04 computers.
Second: I see this issue has been reported, all extensions in windows are disabled! This is only happening in the FF-windows configuration, the extensions all work in Mate and they are currently working in the windows machines using the WaterFox browser.

Mozilla has rolled-out a fix for this. The fix will be automatically applied in the background within the next few hours, you don’t need to take active steps.
In order to be able to provide this fix on short notice, they are using the Studies system. You can check if you have studies enabled
- Go to [=] > Preferences > Privacy & Security.
- Make sure Allow Firefox to install and run studies is check marked.
I you had it disabled, you can disable studies again after your add-ons have been re-enabled.
They are working on a general fix that doesn't need to rely on this and will keep you updated.

Regarding the downloads:
What do you mean by "crash"? Do you get a particular error message, or the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog?
Regarding the extensions:
A critical Add-on-related certificate expired (which obviously should not happen). As a result, all verifications for that certificate are failing.
The Add-ons team is working on a fix for this. Official updates are expected to be posted here:
Currently, the only workaround is to set your system clock back (for example, if your date is May 3, set to May 2; if your date is May 4, set to May 3). You might have to reinstall extensions after that, or maybe Firefox will detect the difference at your next shut down/restart. Changing the date may have other consequences, so I understand this option isn't ideal.
Thanks for the reply.

When I start a download FF gives an arrow in the Menu Bar which opens the Download Library displaying a/the downloads progress bar and the usual info (duration, download speed, file size etc).
Whenever I try to download a larger file the download progresses correctly until the time left counts down to "a few seconds remaining" at which point the download fails/crashes and can’t be restarted.
Does it just have vague information, like "failed," it doesn't mention any specific issue?
It's difficult to think of why the file size should make a difference.
Next time you're doing a large-ish download, could you first pop open Firefox's Browser Console to monitor for messages. Either:
- "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Browser Console
- (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Browser Console
- (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+j
Click the trash can icon at the upper left to clear the window, then switch back over to your main window and start the download. If it fails, switch back over to the console window. Did Firefox log any errors related to that?
More info on the Browser Console: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Tools/Browser_Console
It just says "Failed"
I have the Browser Console open and have started a download.
