FF behaviour on ICMP port unreachable

I was testing a ban rule on my server and am not sure if the server is not responding correctly or FF is not interpreting the server's response correctly.

I accessed my website normally, then attempted to access a URL that results in a ban. This resulted in the following line being added to iptables on the server: -A chainname -s m.y.i.p/32 -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-port-unreachable

When I then tried to access the site again I got a 'Network Protocol Error' in firefox.

And when I tried again, I got a timeout.

What I thought should happen is I should just get an immediate 'This website is not available' (or similar) message.
