Hi there,

Since upgrading to Thunderbird 60 it crashes nearly every time I reply to an email. I have to reopen it 15-20 times a day.

-No crash reports are generated, at all. -Restart with add ons disabled doesn't solve the problem. -Disabling email signature doesn't solve the problem.

Previous versions of Thunderbird worked without issue, so it's certainly a problem that has arisen with the new version.

Is there perhaps a fix due for this soon? I know I am not alone, colleagues all experience the same issue.

Help! Thank you :)

re: No crash reports are generated, at all.

Is Crash Reporter switched on ?

  • 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'Data Choices' tab
  • select checkbox 'Enable Crash Reporter'.
  • click on 'OK'

Please perform a test:

  • Start computer in 'Safe mode with Networking'
  • Start Thunderbird.
  • Test 'reply'
  • Report back on results.

Are any 'Crash Reports' listed here: 'Help' > 'TRoubleshooting Information' If yes:

  • click on 'Copy text to clipboard' button
  • In the Support Forum for this question, right click in a 'Post a Reply' text box and select 'Paste'
  • You can remove everything except for the crash reports, which should be generated as links when you click on 'Post Reply'.

Hello!

Just checked, crash reporter is on but there are no crash reports anywhere. I'll try again in safe mode when I get a chance.

It is not unusual to not get crash reporter on Mac - for reasons which are not known. Many of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482756 are Mac.

Also, we have a few recent bug reports about crash when sending.

Stask7, can you try https://queue.taskcluster.net/v1/task/RZAeNGJdRlm4TfdzBuiNdQ/runs/0/artifacts/public/build/target.dmg which is mentioned at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1507699#c9 and post your results?

Hi Wayne,

Sadly this didn't work

And safe mode didn't help?

I tried OSX safe boot this morning and Thunderbird had no crashes from about 15 email replies, so it seems to work ok (previously it didn't always crash, most of the time but not always, so I can't be sure without extensive testing, but I gotta get out of safe mode asap as it's a work computer and a pain to work with this way :) ).

Does this help with a solution perhaps?

What addons are installed??

colours of space theme, that's it - all add ons disabled

Was it a clean install of High Sierra, or an upgrade from a previous OSX?

I don't suppose anyone knows of any progress with this? Other similar threads suggest it's not just me with this issue.

I used it as my work email client for the last 4 years and I've used a lot of tags so I'm reluctant to move to a new client, but having the thing crash on me 15-20 times a day whilst trying to work is starting to get a little old I must admit.

Thank you!

WIthout a crash report it is very difficult to give advice. And working in Mac safe mode is troubling.

The only advice I have is Start TB with Mac in safe mode. Make sure Thunderbird is set to NOT access Mac address book.

stask,

Does it still crash when not in safe mode?
