I have a secure web mail account that uses Outlook Web App. I have TB set up so that I can send and receive mail. When I select another user from the list to add to my contacts using webmail I get Retrieval using the IMAP4 protocol failed for the following message

"The server couldn't retrieve the following message:

Subject: "XXXXX XXXXXX - XXXXX XXXXXX" From: "Not available" ("Not available") Sent date: 13/06/2018 10:46:59

The message hasn't been deleted. You might be able to view it using either Outlook or Outlook Web App. You can also contact the sender to find out what the message says."

This is unpromted by me. It just appears in the contacts folder almost as soon as I add them to my contacts using the web mail.

When I receive an email from one of the users I can right click and add them to contacts or I can manually set up each contact. The support desk will only help if you are using Outlook or Microsoft products. From reading some of the support forums I see that Outlook seems to use it's own particular format for address files which TB cannot read. So is there some sneaky way around this or am I just gooing to have to wait for an email from them all or set them up manually. TIA

The generic solution to such questions is to export the data to a file format that is compatible with both the provider and the accepter. This is almost always CSV, though vCard (vcf) and some LDIF files can also be used in Thunderbird.

I'll give this a try when I'm back in the office tomorrow. Thanks

No joy I'm afraid. I've checked with support after a few attempts and it turns out that they have blocked downloading of any contacts. They can only be used via the app. Thanks all the same.
