No matter how I configure Thunderbird, I always get the message

-- Configuration could not be verified --- is the username or password wrong? --

The wow tech folks (3 different people) have no idea. The last one said "why don't you try the Thunderbird forums" It cannot really be this difficult.

The provider configures their server. If they do not know the correct settings I am not sure who would. A quick Google search brought up this year old page. https://emailsettings.info/wowway-pop-imap-and-smtp-email-settings/ Using all non secure ports? If this is true it might be time to find a new up to date provider.

Airmail, thank you for your reply. I have done months worth of Google searches, finding exactly what you have provided and I thank you for yur time. I have also found search results of folks who are using Thunderbird to connect to wowway, com without errors. However there does not appear to be a way to contact them. That is why I have made this plea. Hopefully someone who is successfully using Thunderbird will reply. Thank you again for your reply.

It would seem wowway are n ot exactly that helpful with updating their documentation.

Located a question where user had this for outgoing server: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1098751 You could send then a private message. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/mcharow

  • Server Name: smtpauth.mail.wowway.com
  • Port: 587
  • Connection security: STARTTLS
  • Authentication method: Normal password
  • User Name: 'my wow user name'

Also located this: Server Hostname: 'pop3.mail.wowway.com' and 'imap.mail.wowway.com' IMAP Port: 993 POP Port: 995 Connection Security: SSL/TLS: Authentication: Normal Password

So they must be using more updated server settings.

The only suggestion I have is to start your computer in Safe mode with network support.

Sometimes antivirus software causes this to fail. Safe mode starts with antivirus disabled. If it works then restart your computer in normal mode.

Good luck. I hope someone that uses this provider can give better help.

I do not know if you have only just installed Thunderbird and this is the first mail account you are trying to create. Please confirm that your Firewall, which may be part of your Anti-virus product has Thunderbird as an allowed program.

Thank you for your reply. I have been using Thunderbird for about 8 years. Currently using it with 5 different email account, without any issues. All I want to do is to have Thunderbird connect to wowway email to allow me to manage email just like ATT, Bellsouth and Gmail. Is it really this hard? It was not with the others.
