After you changed the value back to 'default', did you close and then restart Firefox  ? If you don't, changes you've made in about:config, won't take effect.

My pleasure  !

How were you to know, eh  ?

No, I did not know, but I'm still not sure it is saved because at a new start I had to redo the procedure...

Bummer  !

In that case : remove that 'Chosen Solution' mark from my post - you can do that by clicking the 'Undo' button to the right of that post.

And then maybe somebody else will come up with the perfect solution for you (fingers crossed .... ).

But : are you sure this is related to an about:config setting  ?

What pref are you changing? and what is "Internet Optimizer"? Firefox by default comes with the optimal prefs to browser quickly, this "Internet Optimizer" sounds like a suspicious program.

If you want to ensure your computer is running as good as possible, I suggest the following:

  • Ensure Windows is completely up to date, and always install updates ASAP. This includes Windows feature updates.
  • Uninstall all anti-virus from your computer, and use the built in Windows Defender anti-virus. It's just as powerful as any other anti-virus, it's free, and it doesn't slow your computer down (most popular anti-virus opens you up to additional hacks and security holes).
  • Uninstall all "optimizers" and "cleaners". These are snake oil programs that do more harm than good. Using Window's built in Cleanup and Disk Optimizer tools is good enough
  • If you are worried there is malware on your computer (which there probably is) install malwarebytes from www.malwarebytes.org. It isn't an anti-virus, it's an anti-malware scanner. It's free, run it once a month or so.
  • Finally, update your graphics driver and make sure you keep Firefox up to date. There is a major Firefox update coming next week which will make Firefox roughly twice as fast as it currently is.

@ Isti :

Tyler Downer may have a point - on the one hand there is this :

But on the other hand there is this :

Thanks again! BUT: - I use the updated, licensed version of Auslogics Boostpeed 9. With the internet optimizer function - When it signalize that my Prefetch Next is wrong set, I find this wrong settings in about:config

The problem is that the correction of the setting is not saved by the Firefox!

The bests!, istvan

more options

Yeah... Don't use Auslogics. It's a poorly written, waste of money product that does nothing. Stop paying for it, request a refund, uninstall it, and follow my instructions above.

As for the pref they are suggesting, what exact pref is it?

more options

Hi, The refund period is expirated...

It signal for me to reset the pref-next to it default setting...

more options

Alright then, uninstall it and don't use it again. I'm trying to help you save money here and make your computer run better ;)

What exact pref is it referencing. it would be something like network.prefetch-next

more options

Yes, I attach the screen capture

more options

So you change that pref, restart Firefox, and it resets to the default?

What are you changing it to, "True"?

more options

I reset it to Default (true). I exit Firefox...

BUT when I Shut down my computer and I start it later, I find the "initial", MODIFIED (false)- NOT the default - status...

My resets is NOT saved!

How to fix preferences that won't save Does this article help?

more options

You can check if you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts. The user.js file will only be present if you or other software has created this file and normally won't be present.

You can check its content with a text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click). The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Hi, I not find the user.js file in the Profile folders - see attacm. -but but yhe modifications in config is not saved, and the problem re-appear at each relaunch of the Firefox.

How I can relaunch AL the modified settings to its default? And SAVE this?

Thanks

Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them .html and .ini and .js and .txt and you may only see a file name without file extension (User instead of user.js). You can check the file extension (type) in the properties of the file in Windows Explorer via the right-click context menu.

Otherwise do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • do NOT remove "personal data" When you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data When you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data When you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then you can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.
