How can I get my text in an email to end at the right side of the page and go to the next line instead of extending forever at the right side?
When writing an email, my message continues a long way across the page, and I have to move the bar at the bottom of the email to read the entire line that I've written. Each line of the message used to end at a reasonable distance across the page, then the text I was typing automatically continued on the the line below. Somehow I've messed up this setting, but can't figure out how to configure my messages so they don't do that. (Sometimes I receive messages from people whose emails extend WAY across the page---like mine now do---and it's inconvenient to read messages like that. Thanks for telling me how to fix this! (All was OK a few minutes ago, but I accidentally clicked on something that reconfigured my lines of text...)

Hit Enter to end the line and drop to start the next line.
Failing that you are going to have to provide much more information about how and where and what on this happens. Details.

That is possibly an issue with some CSS style rule to wrap the text automatically that is missing.
- white-space: pre-wrap
Current releases (36 and up) support the white-space property for text area. It is possible that the website uses "white-space: pre" instead of "white-space: pre-wrap". The former will prevent Firefox from wrapping the text. You can check that in the Inspector via the right-click context menu.
My reply to first answer to my question: I don't know any other details to provide. My email was working fine a few minutes before this happened, without the text of a message extending WAY across a page. I seem to have hit some key wrong, accidentally, but can't figure out how I changed the distance that my text now extends around the page. Suddenly the page seemed to become wider---even wider than the normal display on my computer screen. This happened suddenly, by a click error, not because of a downloaded upgrade.
My reply to second answer to my question: I am not tech-savvy, so I can't understand the info on the Mozilla Tools page link you sent. Surely there is something I just need to click on my toolbar that will get this back to the way it has been since I've been using Mozilla (for many years). It's probably something simple...

You could try this :
Type in the address bar about:config (press Enter) (promise to be careful, if asked) Type and look for the preference : view_source.wrap_long_lines and set its value to true (unless it's already set to 'true')
Close and restart Firefox.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).
"Clear the cache:
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Summary: My email message block was configured just fine---for many years---until earlier this evening. Obviously a slip of a finger clicked on something else that made the message text lines quiet wrapping around like they used to do. Surely there is a simpler way to reconfigure back to what I had, without going through all those steps. Is there something on the Toolbar that I'm missing?

Re Happy112 Suggestion. The Address Bar is where the URL's are. Website address are displayed where the green padlock is. Copy/Paste about:config into the address bar.
Re Cor-el Suggestion If you can not do any of these things then find some one that can help you as these are the simplest of instructions that are plainly laid out for you to accomplish. So if can not do these, we can not help you.

The very simplest of instructions is to Uninstall Firefox and Re-install with the Full Version Installer. Firefox 56.0.2 is current release https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

The 'address bar' is alsos known as the 'location bar' or the 'URL bar' and even the 'Awesome bar' - it's the bar where, at the left side you see the green padlock, and at the right side you'll see the buttons for bookmarks, downloads, home, the 3-bar menu (those three horizontal lines - when you click on that button it will take you to the FireFox menu).
