Why does my browser turn white or black?

When I'm online some days the browser will turn white or black out of nowhere. If I am watching a video it will still play sound but the screen for the browser that shows the image is white or black. I can see my tabs open and what each are, and I can see the url, search bar and even use the bookmarks and downloads buttons on top. But the screen is either of these colors. If I try to open a new tab suddenly that one is also one of those colors as well. I have several screenshots of this so it is quite upsetting when it happens as I have to close the entire program in order for me to use it. That creates a major issue when I'm writing an email or doing a job application. I hope there is a fix for this.

hello, could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

What is the Firefox memory usage when this is happening?

Does it help if you close and restart Firefox?

See also the about:memory page. You can open "about:" pages via the location/address bar

Cor-el I do have to close and restart firefox it is just inconvenient that that has been my only solution to the problem. Also, I don't know how to check the memory usage when it is happening, or at all.

thanks a lot - from your description it sounds like an issue with hardware acceleration - please try to disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect) for a bit and see if things change.

could you also upload the screenshots you were taking here in a reply? it might all be material for a bug report...

thanks - did disabling hardware acceleration make any difference?

I don't know. The frequency of the black or white happening was about once a week or every few days, so I'm not sure if it's going to help. I will let you know though if it has worked.
