How can I stop Firefox checking plugin compatibilty; it's a waste of my time so can I fix it?

Every time I open Firefox a window comes up saying the it's checking to make sure my plugins are compatible. Every time. Every bloody time. Yes, I can hit the enter key and cancel but it's still an unnecessary pain and waste of time. It's also an INTERRUPTION OF MY WORKFLOW and that makes it a serious problem. I put up with Firefox's all too frequent updates, grudgingly, but I cannot abide the annoying and unnecessary plugin check. Please tell me there is a way to reassure Firefox that there are no new plugins and the plugins are up to date. If this cannot be resolved I will have to consider another browser. As much as I like Firefox, and as much as I Dislike others, I will be forced to switch.

I changed the way I use FF long ago - I use tabs, and almost never launch a new session, unlike I used to do with IE.

You can find the option to launch new windows in a tab instead and set that, and also whenever you click on a link, right click instead, and the top selection is open link in new tab (you can right click that, making the link selection just 2 quick right clicks). Unless you are already doing these, they can save you a lot of time waiting for FF to launch.

Hope this helps.

This happens every time you start the browser?

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display? Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want to be displayed?

  1. Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
  2. Use Bookmark
  3. Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.

You can use any of these that you wish;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any webpage or about: page you want.
