Firefox keeps logging out automatically
Every time I start Firefox I have to login again and confirm my login via email. Needless to say, this is quite annoying.

Out of Firefox Sync. Sorry I didn't mention that. I thought it'd be annotated somewhere given I had to select I had an issue with Firefox Sync in the question dialog.
EDIT: Actually, it is annotated to the right of the post. :)

Firefox saves your Sync login, if you let Firefox save it, with other logins. Could you check:
"3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
In the left column, click Security. Then on the right side, find the "Saved Logins" button and click that.
Your Sync account should appear as
"Site" = chrome://FirefoxAccounts
Is Firefox saving it?
It is not.
