Till three days ago I received regularly my hotmail.de mail on Thunderbird, but now my account is not recognized by Thunderbird any more
I mean, Thunderbird installed - maybe the day before yesterday _ automatically the version 45.1.1 and possibly the problem started there. Thunderbird does not recognize my password or my name for hotmail.de anymore.
I receive this message: Der Mail-Server pop3.live.com antwortete: Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password. [Error="ProxyNotAuthenticated" AuthResult=0 Proxy=AM3PR02MB261.eurprd02.prod.outlook.com:1995:SSL]
Someone suggested me a control of POP, and on the site of my account hotmail.de it is deactivated, and it is not possible to reactivate it, there is an only option: deactivated.
My system is Windows 7 Home Premium.

Sounds more like a Hotmail problem. Have you contacted Microsoft?

I have the same issue. Basically Microsoft want your business, but are not prepared to offer a quality service. I only use Hotmail for junk because it has been unreliable for the best part of a decade and turned to a pile on manure when Windows 10 overloaded there servers. That is my take on it anyway..

Dear Mark, I thank you very much for your detailed explanation. It is a very good and clear one, so I had absolutely no problems in following your steps. Unfortunately Thunderbird tells me again "Fehler beim Empfangen des Paßwortes" = Error in receiving the password - which I never changed.
