Firefox does not open my homepage since the latest Firefox update 44, it just opens a blank page instead. I have tried deleting the user file suggested in other posts, but that did not work.

Hi Have you tried this?

Wrong home page opens when I start Firefox - How to fix

It might work.

There wasn't any extra address in the properties target box.

Hi, please see How to set the home page, and click on Restore to Default.

Restore to default didn't work either.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder that stores session data. When sessionstore.js is deleted you lose App Tabs and Tab Groups and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

I don't see a sessions store file, but there is a sessions checkpoint file. Is this something new?

more options

The checkpoint file is to log the startup progression.

If you do not have the sessionstore.js file then you can check the sessionstore-backups folder.

Did you check the startup setting to see if it is still set to the home page?

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox starts":
"Show my windows and tabs from last time"
    "Show my home page"
    "Show a blank page"

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • 3-bar Menu button > Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit
