The above options are no longer visible in Firefox. I'm using Windows 7Pro. I have tried the previously listed solutions (safe mode, default theme). I am already using the Default theme and have no appearance add-ons or plug ins installed. I upgraded to version 41 today and the problem persists. Firefox is the only application with which I have this issue.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily Preferences can be modified via Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) in the right-click context menu and by double-clicking the line with the pref.

Is the Firefox window maximized?

What do you se where those buttons should be?

Is that empty (black) space?

You can try a different Windows theme and Windows background image (wallpaper) to see if that helps.

  • Control Panel > Personalization > Theme & Window Color and Appearance

yes the FF window is maximized. Nothing is in that space and I wouldn't call ir black but sort of gray. It's as if they were never there.

I have the same personalized wallpaper for a year and this just started happening. Why is that suddenly an issue, please?

Try to set browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar to false on the about:config page to disable displaying the tabs in the title bar.

I'm sorry but I don't have any idea how to do what you've suggested.

Thanks very much for that detailed explanation. I found the preference: browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar - double clicked on it and it changed to false. I closed the browser and re-opened it and nothing has changed. Still no minimize, maximize or exit buttons. The only way I can get out of FF is File/Exit. I can't get to the task bar at the bottom of my home screen either. This is quite the PITA.

Hold up! I just repeated those steps and it is fixed now. I sincerely appreciate your help.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

Can you attach a screenshot?
