Firefox tells me to update Adobe Reader and after I try to do that Adobe says I already have the most current version.

Firefox shows that my Adobe Reader needs to be updated to version 11.0.84 and when I try to do the Adobe Reader update, it tells me I already have it.

I also did a refresh of Firefox and I still have the same problem. I am using Windows XP SP3. I do not know what to do. Thank you. Please tell me what I should do next.

Adobe only offers some basic versions as a complete download. If there are newer version then you always need to run the updating in the Reader until you no longer get an update offered.

For Adobe Reader that is 11.0.8 as you can see on the above posted other versions web page.

If you have updated to the latest AR version that is available for your OS (XP SP3) then you are fine and can ignore the plugin check page about the AR plugin.

Different systems may not be compatible with the same program version. If the Adobe site says you are up to date, that's all you need.

Thank you for commenting. I am learning more as I go along. I think it is to do with my having a Windows XP computer and because of that I am not able to get the most current version that Adobe has (and there is something new with Adobe called CD), but I guess I have the most current version that Adobe put out for Windows XP. I am not sure if that means I am 'vulnerable' which is what Firefox shows for Adobe Reader. I don't know what any vulnerabilities would be. Thank you.

Messages from the plug-in test page should be checked out. BUT, if the support site of a program says you are okay, you are fine.

Many times the test page flags up to date programs. The reason looks to be that no one has told it's database about the newest program versions. So, your version could be v45, but the tester thinks the current is still v44. Then you get the alert. (Notice the version I posted is newer than the one in the database.)

Since I have Windows XP, I realize that more and more providers like Adobe are going to be leaving off WIndows XP (Like Microsoft has already done) from being included in their updates. I had thought that the one in December, 2014 might have applied to Windows XP, but I don't think it did. I've also been told that the "DC" version update from Adobe for the Reader will not work for WIndows XP even if I download it using a WIndows 7 for my machine.

So, thanks to you and others I am learning more about what is going on more when I see that FIrefox tells me I need to update a program. I will be able to if the program allows me; and if not I will have to stay with their most current update provided for my Windows XP. I was just worried when I saw the "vulnerable" warning by Firefox that shows up by the sign telling me that the Adobe Reader was not up to date.

I have the same problem using Vista Home Basic. I actually have the latest version possible for Vista, Adobe Reader XI (11.0.10.32) which works OK but apparently, having posted on the Adobe Reader forum, it is not the certified official version for Vista that is the 10.1.4 version that is provided if you click the red update button on the plug in check page. The update does not complete because I have 11.0.10.32 installed. So I suppose I am just stuck with the red button. Apparently there are no more updates for Vista so I will have the same 'vulnerability' problem

I have the same problem using Vista Home Basic. Thanks, Reynardine....I checked them out, and wanted to email them with a question, but, alas, no email address....I couldn't find out if this was compatible with WIN XP PRO SP 3 the only info I could see is "OS WIN Vista & 8.0" ....so, not for me! The best way to update Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat is to open the program directly and use Help > Check for Updates.

Adobe doesn't support the latest Adobe Reader/Acrobat on Vista for some reason, but other users have reported that it will install if you download it.

I thought that updates are numbered chronologically. So I would think that version 11.0.8 is later than version 11.0.10 I would appreciate a clarification.

Version numbers do not strictly obey the rules of mathematics (for example, valid numbers do not contain two decimal points). Each section should be read as a whole number, e.g., major version, minor version, revision/build, etc.

Think of it as 11.0.one, 11.0.two, 11.0.three, 11.0.four, 11.0.five, 11.0.six, 11.0.seven, 11.0.eight, 11.0.nine, 11.0.ten (11.0.10) and now 11.0.11 (11.0.eleven).
