New Posting: (1) Desperate for Shockwave 16.0.0.235 To Work; and (2) Bookmarks Toolbar & Bookmarks Corruption, or ??
- (Please Note that I have perused and enabled all prior suggestions and/or links in response to the issues herein, to no avail.)
ISSUE No.1: Continuing to experience barely survivable online performance absent (Adobe Flash Player (Shockwave) v16.0.0.235 and, now v.16.0.0.257; all updates are automatically enabled. However, Although plugin for same reflects installation, it is not enabled. Continual Unresponsive Scripts popups, freezes, stalls, disabling, screen flips, "slow" is an understatement! I have run all remedial scans, all protective programs scheduled and no viruses, bugs, aboard. This is a never-ending nightmare - Adobe Flash Player 14.+++++ was similarly corrupted; but then v. 15.+++++, w/the second of two Adobe Bulletins came into focus _ 15.+++++ worked! So relieved, then suddenly, v. 16.0.0.235 arrived, the worst yet! Now, yet another January 2015 Bulletin.
Does anyone have a viable step-by-step resolution to this 24/7 heartache?! Recently read a blurb regarding shutting down Internet Explorer (which I cannot locate currently!) that the shut down will aid in the installation of Adobe Flash . . . is there any value to trying this? Note:I have uninstalled and reinstalled Flash Player several times. About shutting down IE, brief post on other forum referred to the same resolving Flash Player install, desktop icon distortions, and menu visuals (screenshot hereto). Truth??
ISSUE No. 2: Worse, suddenly last week, my Bookmarks Toolbar not only disappeared, but clicking Bookmarks, Show All Bookmarks, the check mark next to Bookmarks Toolbar is gone, and a form appears that reflects bookmarks toolbar folder. Consequently, I am not able to access my myriad of exceedingly important and heavily accessed Bookmarked Folders. Additionally, right clicking the mouse for the Star Symbol to bookmark a document "Save Page As" does not respond. I have not the slightest inkling where to go with this. Mind, before posting herein, I do much searching for answers. This particular issue is of paramount importance for me. Finally, I have resorted to going to my bookmarks backup and recent enabled dates did not work, so I went all the way back to mid-December, and now the Show All Bookmarks is totally empty. What the *%&I%^R#%$%& is going on??!!
I had somehow thought that Windows requires that Internet Explorer be on-board in order to work. Or, am I mistaken and it was that Outlook Express only would work when used in concert with IE? Heretofore, I used WIN XP and Outlook Express. Now, Windows 7 Ultimate Professional and Gmail.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;
Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.
Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.
Very appreciative of the Step-by-Step Directions you have provided. I will be implementing the same shortly. I presume the steps are in response to Issue #2 of my posting regarding the missing Bookmarks Toolbar, et al.?
Further, as to your email's addendum, regarding some add-on's causing problems in Firefox and your import, Disable All of Them, is too open-ended for me to delve into, for I have many long-terms add-on's and/or plugins which have been working well and are safe.
Having said that, I have recently added Avast's Grimefighter, and use Avast Internet Security 2015, as well. I also have Auslogics Defrag, and Auslogics Boostspeed 6, and more.
Consequently, could you provide further commentary regarding those more specific detrimental add-on's in Firefox?

You misread my instructions. It said; Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

It happens now and then. An add-on works fine for years. But then the Firefox program is changed. So the add-on writers have to rewrite their program for the upgrade.
Type about:addons<Enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.
If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.
Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.
