To quote a description of one of the articles about download & migration:

"Note: Because your preferences and extensions are often the causes of problems, this article does not explain how to copy these between profiles."

Oh, so MY choice of preferences (and extensions) is the problem, is it? According that statement, if MY choices do not work, then I must run Firefox without the ostensible benefits of the features which I prefer, right?

Well, I guess that explains why almost every major Firefox release has fewer useful options. Instead of debugging an option the developers simply develop an excuse to remove it altogether. Unfortunately, they also love introducing new features, which, of course, have bugs.

Are you clueless? The fundamental reason for using Firefox instead of another browser is its features. If we cannot use them because they "cause problems", then what's the use?

hello Blacklisted, by its foundation firefox is a very customizable and extensible browser and is giving users control over it - however it's also important to understand that this can also cause breaking things. in regards to the article you were referring to, you can migrate the prefs.js file if your want to migrate your custom settings...

What kind of problems do or did you had that you have reset Firefox or otherwise created a new profile?

Note that the prefs.js file also stores data from extensions, so if you would reinstall the extensions then they may not get initialized properly or you may end up with prefs that you do not need.
