McKafee wouldn't allow me to download Firefox from the official website because of this Trojan. As part of the download I also got registry scan (which I didn't ask for) and some other program, the name of which I forget. is this load of crap downloaded as part of the official firefox download, and is this Artemis truly a trojan? If it is, then the Firefox site is not secure.

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

I suspect that supposed trojan detection only happens with the stub-installer.

Have you tried downloading the full off-line installer? http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html

No, that is not included in the regular Firefox download. You may be infected with a redirector that substitutes site on you.

Can you check your download history for the source site of the various parts of the download?

McAfee has a forum for discussion of Artemis detections (I have not explored it much): https://community.mcafee.com/community/security/malware_discussion/artemis

To supplement McAfee, you can try some of the cleaning tools listed in our support article. Note: these are all free. If you get diverted to trial versions that require payment, do not pay; use one of the specialized forums listed in the article for assistance.
