I updated to the most current version of FF: 27.0.1. I never had any issues with the browser crashing with any other versions. It closed (crashed), the 1st time I opened it within 5 minutes. Another issue I noticed, the open tabs from the previous version were not open, nor accessible to restore. I have had it for 2 hours atleast, opened it roughly 8 times, and it has crashed at least 5 out of 8. It did send some FF report box that I dismissed I was so mad and consumed in work. Please help. If not, can I simply choose to restore the OS from earlier today? Or will this still have the current version installed? BitGuard is not available on this laptop...running vista 32 bit. Please help. Thank you.

When Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox Crashes" (especially the last section) for steps to get those crash IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.

If that's not possible, have you tried Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

If Firefox works better (is more stable) in Safe Mode, we could suggest various next steps based on that information. If it's just as bad, that would be good to know as well.

Could you check your update history to see what version you had immediately before 27.0.1? You can access this on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table, click the "Show Update History" button.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs each time you start Firefox.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there. You can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
