Firefox stops scrolling using the Trackpad.

I'm randomly losing the ability to scroll using the mouse. I launch Firefox and it works fine, then after a varying amount of time it stops and the only way it comes back is by restarting Firefox. Today it isn't taking long for it to happen after launching.

I'm on the latest version of Firefox in Mac OS X Maverick and I'm using the following extensions all in the latest version,

• Adblock Plus • DoNotTrackMe • Firebug • Xmarks

I first tried disabling all the plugins, didn't help. I just tried resetting Firefox, again didn't help.

I haven't noticed this behavior in any other programs thus I'm thinking it's Firefox.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

I just tried disabling the accelerator and it didn't help.

It's highly unlikely to be a malware issue as I'm on a Mac.

Sorry, I though your details said that you were on Windows 7. My mistake.


Does the scrolling abilities slowly decrease or does it just all of the sudden stop scrolling?

P.S. I set my Scroll Bars to always show in System Preferences—>General. I then had to restart my computer for it to help. Or at least it's fixed it's working thus far.
