remove tabs from top of page I've tried the two suggestions on the site with no luck
I had an update and now tabs show it's so annoying. I have'nt got the symbol on the right of my screen to click on as was mentioned on the site and I've tried about:config suggestion with no luck. Please help

In Firefox 22 and earlier, you could suppress the tab bar when there was only one page open in the window, i.e., only a single tab. The developers are gearing up for a new interface, so removed that option. However, at least for now, you can restore it with an add-on:

Note: I haven't tried it myself.
If you have noticed any other changes regarding the tab bar, could you list those out?
