Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
You can also check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
By the way, does the problem occur with the Bookmarks menu or with a specific bookmark? If you could clarify where you're clicking:
- classic menu bar > Bookmarks menu
- orange Firefox button > Bookmarks
- Bookmarks Toolbar > button to open Bookmarks drop-down list
- a bookmark on the Bookmarks menu
- a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar
- a bookmark(s) button on a different toolbar, such as the Yahoo toolbar
