How do I get Firefox to move to the new website based upon the address I put in the space next to the arrows?

I have release 15 of Firefox. The only was I can get to a new website is through the use of bookmarks or by Google search. If I put in the www.comcast.com address in the box on live 3, nothing happens. I try to use the green arrow but nothing happens.

That seems rather odd. Presumably you are also able to click on links and they work.

Possibly the controls for the toolbars are corrupt or some other software extension is preventing firefox from working correctly. Presumably this has worked previously without problems.

Try using safe mode

If that fails try resetting the toolbars and customisation. This will obviously cause loss of customisations that you may have made. You may do this by renaming the file localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old Doing so is reversible if it does not solve the problem.

The file is in the Firefox profile. I forget the exact menu items but something like

  • Menubar -> Help -> Troubleshooting -> Profile [Open containing folder]
  • entering about:support into the address bar and then hitting the Return key takes you to the same Troubleshooting page.
  • for full instructions see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf

You can try to do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

After trying to do things in safe mode, I finally gave up and installed rel 16. The system now works. Thanks

Everything worked in safe mode but not when I went back to normal. I tried everything that was requested but finally gave up and installed release 16. Everything is working again. I am not a fan of putting in a new release every month. Thanks for your help.

You may note Firefox now usually updates every 6 weeks. Unfortunately most/all updates then get followed by another security patch or fix. Firefox 16 will now have updated to Firefox 16.01.
