How do I shut off the alert that there is an update available for Firefox?

On my desktop running XP, I lost the ability to access one of my sites because it redirects in a way Firefox doesn't understand. I do not want to have the same problem on my laptop running 7. Every time I run Firefox, it brings up a window about an update. I DON'T WANT TO UPDATE. How do I get rid of this annoying reminder? I'm using Firefox Yahoo edition 1.8.

If the problem of redirects gets fixed, and I can access my favorite site, I'll then update the laptop.
