How do I decide what version I need or want
I'm not even sure what version I have now. And not sure I should try a new or different version. I just don't understand.

You are using old version, you should use either 3.6 or 7.0.1 becuase of security issue, download latest Firefox from here
You have a user agent that is corrupted by Fast Browser Search (FBSMTWB) and that identifies you as Firefox/3.0.13
