Today I installed Firefox4 and now the left or right lower corner is blinking all the time that I mouse over a link in a page. I find this very irritating and I can't find an option to stop this new behavior.

Add code to userChrome.css below the @namespace line.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#statusbar-display { display:none !important; }

Thanks. I searched everywhere, including ~/Library/Mozilla/ and ~/Library/Application Support/ but I can't find userChrome.css anywhere... The Apple search engine also lets me down as usual as it doesn't search in the library apparently...
