Can't bookmark new sites (using Firefox 3.5.3 and Mac OS 10.6.5)

Cannot add new bookmarks: Bookmark menu selected, drops down, and "Bookmark This Page" gives no results. (When I do this with my blank home page, or with a blank Google search, it does work.) I'm using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.5 and Firefox 3.5.3.
