Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions. You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") --- See also http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite

I'm using Firefox 3.6.6 as well and I have the same problem... Clickig "bookmark this page" does absolutely nothing.. that or even checking the the blue outlined star on the address bar... I tried both disabling all addons and starting in safemode as well as following the instructions here: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved?s=bookmarks&as=s Under "Unable to add new bookmarks or make other changes"..... Please help thanks

FIREFOX?!! I do not understand why this very simple an essential task of bookmarking has not been resolved- especially after the released of a newer version 3.6.7 .... If i'm missing something please someone point it out... I have done through all the proposed troubleshootings and none resolve this problem... However, again.. the bookmarking "action/page" only comes out/up on websites that I already have bookmarked... I just now need it to work on new ones! As a MAC-User I prefer Firefox - however this problem alone is making me want to start using SAFARI again - and I'm pretty sure shortly that's what plenty of user whom find bookmarking important will do... please and thanks

ps. edmeister, I'm pretty sure the anonymous poster meant to write CAN NOT save bookmarks

The only way I could find was to right-click on the the page and select 'Bookmark this page". 3.6 is an abortion, I'm tired of all this plug-in conflict crap - I reinstalled 3.5.

I'm surprised that starting firefox in safe mode fixed this for me. That is, I started firefox in safe mode and was able to add bookmarks, and when I restarted (not in safe mode), I was still able to add bookmarks. I didn't have to disable any plug-ins or make any configuration changes.

It wasn't simply a matter of restarting firefox, because I had this problem yesterday, shut down firefox and logged out in the interim, and still had the problem today. But possibly something about restarting in safe mode cleared it up for me.

Just for the record, I was having this problem with older versons of Firefox also. It just happened recently and, with the help of this forum (thanks cor-el) suggesting to open Firefox in safe mode and checking add ons, I found the problem. It was the recent update of Mcafee Site Advisor. If you have Mcafee Site Advisor as an add on, disable it and see if that helps. It worked for me.

To disable this add on, Go to: Tools/Add ons/Extensions and click: "disable" for this add on and restart Firefox. Hope it works for you too.

P.S. To uninstall Site Advisor altogether, you must do that through Windows Add/Remove Programs.

Disabling the McAfee Site Advisor worked for me. Thanks...this was driving me crazy (er) ;)
