Is it possible to perform partial bookmarks sync?

Let's say, bookmarks from machine A that are synced to the server completely would be then synced from the server to a bookmarks subfolder on machine B, is it possible? The rest of the bookmarks on machine B would need not to sync to the server in such case.

Alternatively, both machines sync to the server but the user would need to specify which bookmark sections (folders) need to be synced and which not, thus avoiding duplication and maintaining consistency.

No, syncing bookmarks is all or nothing and all connected devices are equal, you can't sync selected data unless you would connect another profile folder that only has those bookmarks. Data from all connected devices is uploaded to the Sync server and merged to the other devices connected to this account.
