Why do I have 16 tasks running in for Firefox in Task Mgr?

I have 4 tabs open, and my computer is running and running... come to find out, FF is running 17 tasks in the background... why? And what can I do?

You can open the Firefox task manager by pressing Shift+Esc to see what all the different processes are doing.
