Scrolling sometimes stops suddenly,i have checked that it works on other applications so it's definitely a software issue.

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
If you have a three-button mouse, clicking the middle
button turns the mouse into a scroll controller.
