Firefox Broke after installing tor...? I believe

more options

I just updated tor today to the latest version and Firefox wasn't running while I was doing it. Now it just shows me this (the normal startup for a new tab even though its set to open a website when I start the program) or the "Fire starts here" ad campaign inside Firefox at random occasions. Note that absolutely nothing works past this point (websites don't load at all/most buttons don't do anything anymore). Notice the alpenglow theme that is absolutely broken and the fact that there's a huge space next to the search bar, those should've been the extensions... I tried reinstalling Firefox twice but it somehow isn't better...? Uninstalling tor didn't do anything

Sorry to hear about this problem.

Sometimes program installers and uninstallers mess with certain shared Microsoft files, and in particular VCRUNTIME140_1.DLL file. Sometimes you'll see a fleeting reference to that file being missing. Whether you get a message or not, if it's missing, Firefox becomes mostly useless from the address bar down.

To rule out that issue, you can (re)run Microsoft's installer for the VC Runtime files:

(A) Open https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-160#visual-studio-2015-2017-2019-and-2022

(B) In the "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022" section of the article, download the installer for your system:

  • 64-bit Windows: the "X64" download
  • 32-bit Windows: the "X86" download

(C) Run that installer and restart Windows.

Any improvement?
