In 2020, Mozilla became aware that the developer of the FVD add-on had begun intercepting search queries that were being sent to a third-party search provider, in clear violation of the Mozilla Add-ons Policies.

After a repeated violation Mozilla again explicitly told them under which circumstances this type of data collection is not acceptable. At the time, the developer disabled the feature, and Mozilla continued to host FVD Speed Dial.

Recently Mozilla have become aware that the developer has re-enabled the offending functionality, which remains in violation of AMO policy. In light of these repeated offenses, Mozilla has blocked this addon.

While Mozilla regrets the impact that this has had on some of our users, Mozilla believe that their commitments to user safety and the importance of user trust in Firefox and its surrounding ecosystem have obligated them to take this action, and they stand by this decision.

This isn't a rant at you Fred as I appreciate you are only acting as a contributor and I apologise in advance.

Whilst this may answer the question of what happened. It doesn't address the situation. To simply block an extension without some notification to the users beggars belief. I'm a big boy and wear big boys pants, so I don't need a nanny. This ranks as highly on my books as my bank changing my password to my account without me being able to access it. This has caused so many problems for me on so many levels, it's untrue. I had over 450 saved tabs some of which I will never ever be able to get back now. Some to expensive courses which I paid for years ago with information long gone. Logins for important websites, gone for good! Tabs for very important informational websites involving my business. Gone! It's hard to express just how incredibly angry I am right now. Mozilla have know about this since 2020 and didn't think to mention? Didn't think to warn it's users and give some time to at least backup any tabs? I subscribe to the data backup for FVD Speed Dials, it should have been automatically backing up the dials, it failed to do so. Congratulations are in order to Mozilla for being so utterly careless with users data and so disrespectful of our information. that you turn off access to it without any notice. At the end of the day, I think I would rather take a chance with the likes of Google Chrome, at least I know how I stand with them. Utterly disgusted!
