Hi! Unable to log into my Gmail account from firefox. This is under a fresh installation of Windows 10 and a fresh installation of Firefox. entering my gmail username on the google website to log in results in the error message: "something went wrong"... not a very useful error message. Based on a browser search, I've tried the following:

Cleared cache and cookies... no help. re-installed firefox... no help. Disabled cookie blocking... no help.

Please note that both Chrome and Edge have no problems logging into my gmail account.

Any suggestions?

-Thanks!- [email-removed]

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and when present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox for a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox for this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data for that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data for that website will be saved once again.

Hi again!

Tried both suggestions above... the first one addressing the cookies.sqlite files (which I deleted), and the "Forget about this site" approach ... Neither one worked. I still can't log into gmail. all I get when I try to log in is the same error I was getting before:
"Something went wrong"

"Sorry, something went wrong there. Try again."

Any other Ideas? I really like Firefox... I use it on my other two windows machines, and a linux machine without any problems or issues getting into gmail. The only difference between those and the problematic machine is:

1. I installed a Fresh/scratch install of Windows 10 on a new hard drive. (No other issues with the new installation, apps, or browsers. Everything works fine (except for Firefox/Gmail access).

2. I installed a Fresh/scratch install of firefox from the website.

Any other suggestions? Could the most recent release of firefox have a bug? Is it possible to install a previous release?

-Thanks for the help! -[email]@gmail.com
