How can i reference my firefox posts in future i.e. how long is it archived?

已張貼

I just got done with a long thread, and it includes a screenshot which might even be explanatory to others (in case the Firefox bug never gets fixed).

Anyway...due to my poor memory, i might need to reference my thread in case i transfer to another laptop in future, and need to transfer bookmark-toolbar.

So how long are members' past threads accessible, as long as they remember their member-name & password?

Hi Ann&nymous, you could bookmark it. Or, oh, wait...

At the top of each page, hover your user picture to drop down a menu with a "My Questions" item. That works on desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux) but I don't think it works on the mobile layout.

Also, when you transfer your bookmarks in the future, consider the JSON "backup" format. These restore as a complete replacement for whatever they are loaded into, with everything in its place. You still should generate the HTML "export" file as a backup in case there is a problem with the restore.

I don't like the sound of FF-sync. Can manual-backup be used instead of sync?

And if so, I assume that once you have the backup JSON file on the Desktop of your old laptop, you then copy that to external storage, for the purpose of then doing this? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them#w_restoring-from-backups

Also, what does this mean:

"hover your user picture to drop down a menu with a "My Questions" item."

You can save the link or possibly send that link to yourself via email to have it available. You can also print is pages to a PDF file or take a full page screenshot.

All this is too complicated. For example, there's a support forum for computer tech, wherein i've been able to access my very old postings via my User CP, and it has come in very handy.

I also have another Q regarding the above block-quote, and my Q is best demonstrated thru my attached screenshot, if you can please refer to it.

That is what I suggested, create a file, not Sync.

Also, what does this mean: "hover your user picture to drop down a menu with a "My Questions" item."

Sorry, that should say hover your mouse pointer over your user picture which is at the upper right of Support site pages. I realize it's not really your picture, but you see what I mean.

Your question is why "Show All Bookmarks" appears on multiple menus? The top menu bar is hidden by default on Windows, so there needs to be a place to access it in that configuration.

Yes i know about that option, but for how long are my threads stored there & accessible?

Actually, even when the Menu Bar is hidden, all you need to do is right click on the black-bar (that's above the Address-Bar). Click the black-bar anywhere between the Tab & the Minimize-Area at far right, whereupon you see the Option to Checkmark the Menu-Bar for it to appear. ...in other words, you don't need the "Show All Bookmarks" Menu that's at right side of screen, as shown in my pic.

Yes, you will need to physically transfer the JSON file to the other system, or put it in shared cloud storage, or email it to yourself, etc.

I have no idea how long posts will remain. Currently I can only search back about 9 years. Who knows what the future will bring.

At one time in the past this forum moved from a TikiWiki based forum to MediaWike, used currently. Back then only question threads from the last tree month were transferred to the new format and older threads were lost. A few years ago we had a short trip to a Lithium based from that only lasted a few months because of technical issues and all thread from Lithium were lost. So, it is hard to predict whether and how long data will remain available. If you ever have bookmarked YouTube links then you know those do not last forever as well and most disappear after a few years. So keeping a local copy or a copy on a server on internet that is under your control is always best for valuable date.

OK, i see. Thanks. I may wind up asking Qs again in future if my memory fails me. I'm not so good at organizing my stuff, sorry.

P.S. if there's anyone here at Mozilla who's interested in suggestions, i wish they'd pay attn. to my side-by-side screenshot above, because their duplications really are confusing.
