Upgrade to 70 removed all previously opened tabs. How can I recover them?

已張貼

I restarted Firefox after a reboot and had received the new update (70). I previously had opened tabs (I work a LOT with opened tabs). All of them were now gone. No option to recover previous sessions was under settings. Also, none of my add-ons were present. Is this intended behaviour? Also, it seems to suggest I had to create a FF login to 'sync' things up? With what? I don't need my phone and my PC sync'd. I don't need my work and my home PC sync'd. It's fine that this was a feature previously but please tell me this isn't being thrust upon us because someone thinks that's "what everyone wants"?

Hi michael.a.strauss, sorry to hear about this problem.

Your Firefox self-identified as the Beta release of Firefox 71. Do you have multiple Firefox installations? Please don't uninstall anything just yet, but see whether you can track down multiple or conflicting releases and then we can suggest how you might to clean that up.

My general advice, apart from the multi-version scenario:

If you haven't already, could you close out of Firefox and do a normal Windows shutdown and restart to complete any pending updates and release any file locks.

If Firefox again starts up without your data, could you check whether your stuff is available in a different profile, as follows:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have another profile named default or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Any progress so far, or do we need to keep looking for your data in some other places?

Hi michael.a.strauss, the about:profiles page unfortunately does not show which version of Firefox last used a particular profile. But Firefox does not like different channels (release/beta/developer/nightly) to share a single profile and that could be related to why you had to create a new profile for Firefox 70.

Please see the approach in my earlier reply to investigate other profiles.

I'm assuming profiles are created per instance of Firefox (automatically) then? I do not sign into Firefox and didn't have a login even for Mozilla.org until I created this one to submit this issue.

I'll check through your previous response and see what I can discover.

It doesn't happen at each update; that would be crazy-making. However, it was generally implemented starting in Firefox 67: Dedicated profiles per Firefox installation.

The about:profiles info was very helpful. There were three profiles (default in use, the dev one and what turned out to be my old one). I'm now back up and running! Thanks so much for all your assistance! A+ ;-)
