Most videos wont play, error:no video with supported format and mime type found

majority of videos show this error, youtube shows "Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available" youtube's html5 test page shows an exclamation mark next too H.264 and MSE & H.26. the only fix I have found talked about is to clear your cookies, I cleared them but it made no change (fresh install of firefox).

what do you mean by this? what do I have to change?

The browsers now use html5 if there is video issues that is something you installed causing the video playback issue or the video your viewing isn't probably formatted to the site playback. I use Chrome and Firefox and have no youtube playback issues. So your will have to give links to the problem videos for others to test what issue your asking about as well. And if you installed codecs that could also cause problems.
