I have used Firefox for some time. Latest version now says--every site I go is is suspect, and I need to confirm its use, etc. That includes Mozilla's site as well. I have an iMac and even downloaded the latest version---same problem. Any advice? tips? If I can't work this out, will have to uninstall firefax--which I would really regret as it worked fine until the latest version (possibly a Firefox Sync problem--have no idea).

Thanks.

Could you please provide detail about the issuer of the certificate?

  • click the "Advanced" button show more detail
  • click the blue SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER message to show the certificate chain
  • click "Copy text to clipboard" and paste the base64 certificate chain text in a reply

If clicking the SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER text doesn't provide the certificate chain then try these steps to inspect the certificate.

  • open the Server tab in the Certificate Manager
    • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Certificates: View Certificates -> Servers: "Add Exception"
  • paste the URL of the website (https://xxx.xxx) in it's location field.

Let Firefox retrieve the certificate -> "Get Certificate"

  • click the "View" button and inspect the certificate

You can see detail like the issuer of the certificate and intermediate certificates in the Details tab.

I can do that--but I don't want to do that for each and every site I visit, and for each and every one of my book marks. Come on--the new version requires me to go through this process even for the Mozilla site. Get a life. If this can't be solved in some other way--I can't use firefox.

Plus, when I go through this process, for example, I get a blank screen--I don't even get the site that I retrieved the certificate for and confirmed. Just not working even if you go through the process.

Download from here, a full version installer : https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

No. Still says everything is not secure and requires confirming each and every site. I can't use. Possibly there is an earlier version that may work.

There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky that intercepts secure connections and sends their own certificate or that incorporates special web shielding features that can block content.

This is just too much trouble. I will probably not be using Firefox until this problem is remedied. This has only been recent--Firefox should revert to prior version--or at least make it available to its users at their option (knowing the possible consequences).

This has not found to be a problem with Any Firefox version. Besides if there a issue with a specific Release version they will issue a update but one is not needed for anything like this.

Some antivirus and other security software (mostly on Windows and not Mac or Linux) can do things like inserting its own certificate in attempting to keep you safe but instead cause problems like explained in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER

What Firewall, antivirus and security applications do you have as perhaps somebody can find the likely cause and fix in those.

Maybe a screen shot of what you see in needing confirmation on every https:// site may help in seeing what you see.
