Ever since I updated to Quantum/57, Firefox has been ridiculously slow and laggy. I've already selected the 'disable accessibility services' option, and using Safe Mode didn't make a difference. If I do a speed test, Firefox outdoes Chrome by a decent amount, but there's nothing to show for it. Every single site tends to randomly freeze or lag when I'm typing, scrolling, opening things, literally ANYTHING. Even as I type this right here, it freezes.

Firefox itself doesn't freeze or stop responding, however, but it's more like the response or render or feedback time..?

Task manager doesn't even show Firefox as using a lot of memory or anything, so it's a mystery to me.

I had no issues prior to Quantum. It's been more than two months and I'm really annoyed now. I'm not eager to switch to another browser as I've been using Firefox for over 10 years...

Firefox uses too much memory (RAM) - How to fix

Firefox sometimes uses more memory (RAM) than it should. This can make Firefox slower, and in extreme cases, it can even make Firefox crash. This article describes how to make Firefox use less memory.

Depending on your operating system, you can review and monitor memory usage through specific tools. On Windows, the Performance tab of the Windows Task Manager displays memory usage.

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Thank you, I'll try this later today. I'll let you know how it goes.

I just quit FF and went to Vivaldi, same problems plus too may others and no extension replacements.

My gestures and spell checker are part of Vivaldi, no hassles.

Much much simpler and it just works.
