How can I stop the constant FF popup that asks me to update 56.0.2?

I had updated to Quantum, then went back to 56.0.2 because Quantum caused too many problems, and ever since going back, a FF popup for updating is constantly coming up briefly. I can't take a screenshot because the popup isn't up long enough, but I see it all the time so now know that it's an update prompt.

I tried choosing "never check for updates" and that didn't help, so I went back to "check for updates but let you choose to install them." I've also unchecked "use a background service to install updates" but that hasn't helped either. There is no Advanced choice under Options for 56.0.2.

I use paid AVG and have it set to not auto-update FF. I use Spybot, and have just tried HitmanPro and there are no viruses or malware found.

This constant popup is driving me nuts -- it's everywhere, anytime I'm using FF now since going back to 56.0.2. I won't be trying Quantum again, at least not for a while, because it was truly such a painful mess on my computer, so I'm hoping there is a way to disable the FF update popup for good. Thanks in advance.

I'm back on Quantum as of a few minutes ago. Nothing horrid has happened yet, but I was a bit better prepared. We'll see how it goes. :)

First, Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select Update.

[v56+] Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar. Select Update.

Select Never Check For Updates.

Also turn off Use a background service to install updates

Install Older Version Of Firefox {web link} Be sure to read everything here.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

You should also check out Firefox; Extended Support Release {web link} ESR Notes System Requirements

It's a forced update and there is no stopping it unless move to the Extended Release Version. Or go back up to 57 and ask to solve issues instead of giving up. 52.5.2 ESR. It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page:

Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after May 2018.

You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because:

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
