Hi, it isn't possible at the moment - I don't understand it either! Some options to try are -

To use the old version - which may be removed at some time in the future, type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down to browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled and double click on it to change 'Value' from True to False, then restart Firefox.

Alternatively, you can use the add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-tools/

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

To re-order your Top Sites: go to about:config, "accept the risk", then go to "browser.newtabpage.pinned". Now, you can edit in place, but I'd recommend copying the value to your favorite note editor, and making a second (backup) copy before you start changing things. Everything inside of each set of { } is one Top Site, so you can move them around, making sure to preserve the commas },{ and beginning/end brackets [ ]. Once you're done, right click on "browser.newtabpage.pinned" and select "modify" then paste your edited code and click Ok. (note: you'll have to restart your browser for the changes to take effect)

One more note: while re-ordering Top Sites you may see some null, null those are unpinned sites between pinned sites, and you may delete them to move all of your pinned sites to the top (again, make sure to leave one comma between curly braces).

For a couple of other customizations, see this thread:[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1187886#answer-1062167]

Easiest to rearrange the top sites is to switch off the Activity Stream feature temporarily by setting browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled to false. With Activity Stream disabled you can drag tiles around and pin a bookmarks or history item to a tile. This saves the current state to browser.newtabpage.pinned without the need to edit this pref. Once you are done with arranging the tabs you can re-enable Activity Stream by toggling browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled to true.
