I have a tab which produced an MS error code (supposedly) in a separate box. The tab arrived from a link in FB. Tab refuses to close or allow me to switch to another tab. The box refuses to close when hitting cancel or X-ing out. I have rebooted and run my McAfee security scan which detected no issues.

There are a number of different tricks scammers use to keep you on their page. A common one recently is constantly reloading and displaying a dialog with blanks for a username and password. Pressing the Esc key repeatedly will break the reload-authenticate cycle and allow you to close that one. However, there are others out there that work differently, so without more information about the page, it's hard to give you a specific prescription.

If you can't "Esc"ape, could you post a screen shot of that tab? This article has tips on that: How do I create a screenshot of my problem? Please cut out or blur any sensitive information in the image before attaching it to a reply.

The solution worked! I can't thank you enough. I had to "esc" about 15 times, but it did work. This tidbit will go with the thousands of tidbits I've learned since the days when DOS was king and Windows 3.1 was just a glimmer in the developers' eyes. LOL
