Is there any reason why Firefox would periodically delete browsing history?
It seems to happen once a month (although I've only had this PC about 2 months and it's happened twice, so that's not much to go by).
I'm running Firefox 46.0.1 on Windows 10, It's not any clean up software, I've checked my privacy settings in Firefox and there was another thing I checked but I forgot what it was.
It's no big deal, just a minor annoyance.

History and cookies can be removed or not recorded several ways;
- 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
- 2) Privacy settings; (Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar.)
- 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
- 4) Mal-ware.
Doesn't seem to be any of them though. :/
- Not running in private mode. It records the history fine 99% of the time, then one day it just seems to dump everything (I'm sure I even have to re-do all those cookie disclaimers on every website again when it happens).
- It's set to rememeber my history, I double checked that.
- I've not run a disk cleaner recently. I guess it could be my anti virus but why only once in a while would it do it?
- My security software hasn't detected any malware.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
There's nothing like that. Like I said it's just every once in a while where everything just seems to reset, otherwise it keeps my history everyday.
Keep track of when it happens. Beyond that . . . . .
These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.

Thank you. I'll see if it happens again next month, then I'll know if something's definitely happening.
Set up FEBE to run each day. If needed, FEBE can restore saved data.
