firefox shows a white page with "connecting" noted up top?
when launching firefox on my pc, the menu bar, etc. will appear, however the screen remains white, while a tab showing "connecting" continues to oscilate. I have tried to "reset firefox" under Troubleshooting mode and have tried launching is safe mode, both suggestions found in the support sites. When doing this firefox closes down and when I try and open it up again, it gives me the message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window," which takes me back to square one.

You can check if you can start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift/Options key.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Unfortunately, these suggestions did not work out.
