I have a Dell Windows 7 Professional 64-bit machine. Firefox keeps crashing. "Sorry. Firefox had to close. We'll try to restore your page." (Not exact message.) I have screen shots of the details, which are always the same. The first two lines of the details are: AdapterDeviceID: 0x2e22 AdapterVendorID: 0x8086 With the help of technicians I have tried the following fixes, none of which work: Checked my video drivers. Updated my Intel drivers. Fiddled with the compatibility window. Tried Windows 7 and Windows XP. Checked and unchecked various items. Clicked on Mozilla's "troubleshoot compatibility," which made some changes. I am not computer-savvy. However, anyone who cares to respond can make your suggestions as technical as you need to; I'll share them with my technician.

Can you do this please? Describe what was going on before the crash. How long was Firefox running? What type of sites do you use? Game, study, forum, and so on. Any kind of slow down? Pages not show properly? Anything you can think of.

Were you watching a video / audio at the time?

I occasionally watch short You Tube videos; I can’t remember a crash ever occurring then. My audio remains off, unless I specifically want it for something.

Do you change the Firefox window size?

Yes. Quite often, if I’m working on something else and I want to shove Firefox to the side so I can see it.

Describe what was going on before the crash.

I have not noticed any common element to the crashes. One day recently I was burning up Firefox, had about 15 different tabs open; it didn’t crash once. The next day, I didn’t use Firefox much at all and it crashed a lot. Firefox will crash even when I have minimalized it and am not using it at all. (That happened just now.)

How long was Firefox running?

Firefox can crash soon after I start it; then, other times, I can run it almost all day without it crashing.

What type of sites do you use? Game, study, forum, and so on.

Primarily, what I look at are blogs, websites from news and other publications, and shopping sites. I am an Amazon merchant, so I go to Amazon often.

Any kind of slow down?

No slow down that I have notice.

Pages not show properly?

No problems with pages showing correctly.

Anything you can think of.

Yes. I have five websites that come up as my “home page.” One is Google News; the others are blogs and literary websites that I like to check every day. These websites are always up, even when Firefox is minimalized.

Today, I got rid of the four extra home pages and am keeping only Google News. Let’s see if it crashes with just Google News as my always-up home page. (If it does, then I’ll get rid of Google News, and see if it still crashes.)

Again – thank you for your attentiveness.

You mentioned Firefox did not crash with many tabs open, Can you try an experiment? Open many tabs and leave them open.

I have 15 tabs open now. I'll let you know if and when Firefox crashes. If I get through the day without a crash, I'll leave the computer on overnight. I will report to you tomorrow on whether it remained crash-free.

15 tabs open and it just crashed. I will go back to my original plan and try eliminating my 5 extra home pages and just keeping Google News open unless I'm actively using other websites. I'll report to you on how that works out.

For each new crash, please enter the BP number.

I've had a couple of crashes. Can't find the bp numbers through %APPDATA%. It lists only one crash yesterday. (There were more.) How do I find the bp number of a crash which has just happened. I have checked the details, but it's not in there.

more options

I checked "Last Crash" in the Mozilla Crash report. Only got a number: 1403906031

more options

I've had at least six crashes today. Here is the BP number for one of them: Crash ID: bp-e8e35bf6-c931-4bab-8440-c86332140627 (found on appdata) Couldn't find the others.

Turns out that was a Thunderbird crash. None of today's Firefox crashes have shown up on appdata (yet). The Thunderbird crash messages and details look just like the Firebird crash messages and details.

I checked that link. Couldn't make heads or tales of any of the pages I opened. (I'm such a computer dummy that the "Dummy" books make me feel stupid.) If there's something in there that might help with the crashes, can you let me know what it is? If there is something I can change, uninstall or add?

Meanwhile, how do I find the bp number for a crash at the time the crash occurs? Haven't been able to work this out.

Firefox or Thunderbird crashed at least once on 6/27. No report.

No. No speech recognition. Nothing fancy on this computer. I just use word and Google search.

I've already tested Firefox in safe mode with networking. It still crashed.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

My Firefox regularly crashes during a day. I use Win 7 32b. See a few submitted crash reports: bp-3a2ee615-94b7-4464-9652-fca372141013 bp-ac2da245-cca9-4fee-949d-a8f7b2141013 bp-ad3f19b0-bf2f-4e84-b1f9-f71d22141010 bp-fd892edd-d736-43ca-965b-48ade2141009 bp-30777009-8d5f-41a0-bb72-8814f2141009
