In Mozilla VPN for iOS, you’ll find a setting that lets you control access to your local network while the VPN is active. When enabled, this feature allows your iOS device to:

  • Discover and communicate with other devices on your local network (e.g., smart TVs, printers).
  • Send and receive RCS and MMS messages, allowing full messaging with Android users.
  • Use Apple services like CarPlay, AirDrop, AirPrint, and more.
Important: This toggle is only available on Mozilla VPN for iOS. On Android, Windows, and Linux, local network access is enabled by default and cannot be configured through the app.

While enabling this feature improves convenience, it can reduce your device’s security on untrusted Wi-Fi networks. This is due to the fact that it exposes the device to a known vulnerability called TunnelCrack, which could allow attackers to intercept or redirect traffic on an intentionally maliciously configured router. You may consider disabling this feature while you're connected to public WiFi networks.

You can enable or disable local network access in the Mozilla VPN app settings. Follow the steps below to update your preferences.

  1. On the bottom left corner, select your Settings.

  3. On Bypass VPN for select traffic, slide the toggle to the right to turn it on or to the left to turn it off.

Note: The toggle will be gray when it’s off and green when it’s on.
